Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department has sounded a yellow alert for large parts of Telangana, forecasting heavy rain and thunderstorms over the next five days. The Hyderabad weather office on Monday warned that maximum temperatures are also expected to dip 3 to 5 degrees below normal during the next three days.
Heavy to moderate rainfall is likely to occur in isolated pockets across the state, with the IMD specifically flagging 12 districts for Monday—Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet, and Jogulamba Gadwal.
On Tuesday, the alert extends to Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, and repeats for many of Monday’s districts. Gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph and thunderstorm activity are expected across most remaining districts.
By Wednesday, the alert widens further to include Warangal, Hanumakonda, Janagaon, Siddipet, Bhongir, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, and others. The forecast points to intense weather with lightning, thunder, and high-speed winds.
Northern Telangana districts like Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Khammam, Nalgonda, and Suryapet are also in line for rain accompanied by gusts of up to 40 kmph.
The IMD has extended yellow warnings through Thursday and Friday as well, particularly for northern Telangana and surrounding districts.
In the past 24 hours, rainfall was recorded in scattered locations across Kamareddy, Medak, Sangareddy, Vikarabad, Ranga Reddy, Narayanpet, Wanaparthy, and Jogulamba Gadwal. The highest rainfall was 8 cm in Makthal, Narayanpet district, according to TGSDPS.
