Hyderabad: Former minister and senior BRS leader T. Harish Rao launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing him of betraying Telangana’s water rights by deliberately filing a weak petition in the Supreme Court against the Andhra Pradesh government’s construction of the Polavaram–Nallamala Sagar project.
In a strongly worded press release issued on January 12, Harish Rao said the Telangana Congress government’s move to file a writ petition, instead of a civil suit, has effectively aided Andhra Pradesh’s project. He alleged that the decision exposed Revanth Reddy’s true intent and amounted to “historic treachery.”

Harish Rao drew a comparison with the earlier stay secured by Andhra Pradesh against the Palamuru–Rangareddy project during the BRS regime. He questioned whether the current Congress leadership lacked even that level of legal awareness.
He accused the Chief Minister of knowingly weakening Telangana’s case. “With this toothless writ, Revanth has effectively gifted the Polavaram–Nallamala Sagar project to Andhra Pradesh during Sankranti,” he said, adding that Telangana’s water rights were being mortgaged for political favours.
Harish Rao also recalled Revanth Reddy’s earlier meetings in Delhi and accused him of signing off on anti-Telangana water deals, forming committees to clear Andhra’s interests, and quietly allowing tender processes to move forward.
“Why file a petition after tender deadlines are over? Why not a civil suit?” he asked, asserting that these actions reflect a calculated endorsement of Andhra’s water diversion plans.
He warned that the BRS would not remain silent and vowed to fight politically and legally to protect Telangana’s rights over Krishna and Godavari waters.
