Hyderabad: BRS leader and former minister T. Harish Rao wrote to Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over the issue involving Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender.
He asked whether Rahul Gandhi would support the clean chit reportedly given to the MLA.
He also asked if Rahul Gandhi would direct action against Danam Nagender.
The BRS leader referred to the decision of Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.
Harish Rao questions Congress stand on defection issue
Harish Rao said the Congress party promised to strengthen the anti-defection law in its election manifesto.
He noted that Rahul Gandhi often speaks about protecting the Constitution across the country.
However, the BRS leader questioned why the Congress government in Telangana was acting differently.
He said Danam Nagender won as an MLA on a BRS ticket.
Later, the MLA contested the Lok Sabha elections with a B-Form issued by the Indian National Congress.
According to the BRS leader, this information exists in public records.
He questioned how the Speaker could claim there was no evidence of party change.
Harish Rao said the issue raises questions about the anti-defection provisions under the Tenth Schedule.
He also criticised the Congress party’s approach to constitutional values.
According to him, speeches alone cannot protect the Constitution.
The BRS leader asked Rahul Gandhi to clarify the party’s stand on the issue.
He said people of Telangana and the country expect a clear response.
Dear @RahulGandhi ji
You travel across the country proclaiming that you are fighting to protect the Constitution. In Parliament, in public meetings, and in political campaigns, you repeatedly claim that safeguarding constitutional values is the central mission of the Congress… pic.twitter.com/AhH3m1PF1T
