Guntur: Six workers were killed and at least ten others injured after a massive rockfall at a granite quarry in Bapatla district on Sunday morning. The incident occurred at a site operated by Satyakrishna Granites near Ballikurava mandal.
According to police, the granite quarry accident involved a sudden slab collapse while around 16 workers were on-site. Four bodies have been recovered so far, while teams are working to retrieve the remaining two trapped under the debris.
Ten injured workers were rushed to Narasaraopet Government Hospital. Doctors described the condition of four as critical. Most of the deceased are believed to be from Odisha.
Granite quarry accident raises serious safety concerns
Preliminary investigations suggest the quarry management failed to implement adequate safety protocols. Police launched rescue efforts soon after receiving the alert, and local officials joined to coordinate operations.
District Collector and Superintendent of Police visited the site and directed faster relief measures. Quarry staff are assisting in removing the collapsed rock.
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has sought a detailed report. He instructed officials to ensure top medical care for the injured and ordered an inquiry into the cause of the granite quarry accident Bapatla.
