Gold worth ₹7.8 lakh seized as GRP, RPF nab gang targeting train passengers

Hyderabad: Railway police in Secunderabad arrested three habitual offenders for targeting passengers on express trains and seized gold worth ₹7.8 lakh. The arrests followed two thefts that took place on October 12.

Trio arrested after twin thefts on express trains

Secunderabad Government Railway Police (GRP), along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers, captured the suspects on November 17. Authorities identified them as Arjun Kanifnath Bosle, 25, Bharath Waman Gangurde, 23, and Santosh Shantaram Kusalakar, 38. All three are from Maharashtra and were placed in judicial remand the same day.

Accused had prior records and planned thefts in Vinchur

Investigators stated that the men became acquainted in Vinchur village, where they plotted a series of thefts to support their addictions and relieve financial stress. Later, they shifted to Kopergaon and deliberately chose to target railway passengers, believing it would offer easier opportunities for escape. As a result, they carried out thefts aboard Train No. 12734 Narayanadri Express and Train No. 12728 Godavari Express on the same day—October 12, 2025.

Police trace stolen gold to accused and witness

Following the thefts, the gang sold the ornaments to a contact in Maharashtra. Although they had already spent the money, police tracked down the stolen items. Officers recovered a gold locket with a ruby and a pair of earrings weighing 8 grams from Arjun Bosle. Additionally, they seized 70 grams of gold lumps from a witness named Balu Dahade.
