GO 252 will be amended to protect desk journalists’ interests: Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy

Hyderabad: Revenue, Housing, Information and Public Relations Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy on Tuesday said the State government would amend GO No. 252 to remove provisions that affect desk journalists.

He met representatives of the Desk Journalist Federation of Telangana at the Secretariat and clarified their concerns. During the discussion, the Minister stated that accreditation cards and media cards carry equal validity.

He added that journalists holding media cards would receive every benefit available to accreditation card holders. Therefore, he asked desk journalists not to fall prey to rumours or misinformation.

Minister assures clarity, equal benefits for all journalists

Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said some individuals were spreading confusion over accreditation issues. However, he urged journalists to ignore such claims. He stressed that the government does not favour or oppose any section of the media.

He said the government does not view journalists in separate categories. Instead, it plans to extend all welfare schemes equally. According to him, the government framed GO 252 with the clear intention of supporting genuine and eligible journalists.

He also said Telangana issues accreditation cards on a large scale. In fact, he noted that no other State matches Telangana in this regard.

Meanwhile, the Minister announced that the government would hold a meeting with all journalist associations after the Assembly session. He confirmed that desk journalists would also attend the meeting.

He further said the government would examine every suggestion and opinion before finalising changes. Accordingly, officials will issue the revised GO 252 in writing to ensure transparency.

Those who met the Minister included TWJF State leaders Rajasekhar and Naveen, Desk Journalist Federation of Telangana president Upender, general secretary Sheikh Mastan, leaders Nissar, Vijay and Rajaram, and Sports Journalists Association leaders Krishna and Srinivas.
