Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation planned the construction of three new flyovers in the Old City and, accordingly, issued a tender notification for the projects.
Meanwhile, GHMC prepared proposals to build a six-lane bi-directional grade separator from Hafiz Baba Nagar Junction to Balapur Church Road. The flyover will pass via Metro Function Hall, connecting Umar Hotel to Shoaib Hotel.
At the same time, GHMC decided to construct a left-arm down ramp for the existing Owaisi flyover. Therefore, officials said the ramp would help ease congestion at the busy junction.
Additionally, GHMC proposed another six-lane bi-directional flyover from Bandlaguda to Errakunta Cross Road. Together, the projects aim to reduce traffic pressure in key Old City stretches.
Old City flyovers tender process and project timeline
GHMC issued tenders to construct the three flyovers at an estimated cost of Rs 385 crore. These works form part of the State government’s H-City programme.
Under this programme, the government decided to take up infrastructure works worth Rs 7,038 crore across Greater Hyderabad. Accordingly, GHMC initiated the tender process for the Old City flyovers.
From February 3, GHMC will begin accepting tenders. After that, the civic body will hold a pre-bid meeting on February 12.
Officials said GHMC will receive tenders until February 20. Subsequently, authorities will complete the technical and financial bid evaluation.
After completing the process, officials plan to begin construction on March 1. As a result, traffic flow is expected to improve once the projects are completed.
Officials added that the new flyovers and the Owaisi flyover ramp would ease movement between the Old City, Balapur, and the Shamshabad airport corridor. Therefore, they said travel time would be reduced significantly.
