Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan on Tuesday instructed officials to take proactive steps to prevent the spread of seasonal diseases. Reviewing sanitation, mosquito control, and property tax collection with zonal and medical staff at the GHMC head office, Karnan said timely field-level action was essential.
He held assistant medical officers directly responsible for fogging operations and ordered strict adherence to evening fogging from 4 to 10 p.m. Anti-larval drives are to be carried out in the mornings and evenings. Fuel coupons and pre-paid cards are being issued to support field work, with Khairatabad zone already reporting positive results.
Karnan directed that awareness sessions on dengue and malaria be held in schools and colleges during morning rounds. Fogging must be coordinated zone-wise by assistant medical officers and executive engineers, he said. Drainage areas in colonies should be treated to control mosquito breeding.
He asked officials to collect patient data from Basti Dawakhanas and PHCs and intensify response protocols near affected households. Corporators must be informed of fogging schedules.
On sanitation, Karnan ordered garbage removal through SSR vehicles and said there should be no unauthorized holdings or water stagnation on main roads. Fogging is also to be done near parks and lakes, with pruning and plantation tasks assigned to the UBD department.

He emphasised meeting property tax targets assigned to bill collectors. Residential properties running commercial activities must be reassessed and taxed. In the absence of trade licences, tax must still be collected. Monthly reviews will be held. He flagged a high number of bounced cheques in Begumpet and Saroornagar circles and directed DCs to resolve them.
Karnan warned of vigilance action if commercial use in residential areas on main roads is not identified and addressed.
He also ordered renewed action to control stray dog menace, with strict adherence to sterilisation protocols and follow-up through adoption drives. Pet licences are to be issued only post-compliance. Mutton and chicken shops must be inspected with food safety officers to prevent food poisoning. Stored stock is to be sent to labs for testing.
The meeting was attended by Additional Commissioners Raghu Prasad and Pankaj, Zonal Commissioners Hemant Keshav Patil, Apoorva Chauhan, Hemant Sahadev Rao, Ravi Kiran, Venkanna, Deputy Commissioners, Assistant Medical Officers, and Entomology staff.
