GHMC Mayor Vijayalakshmi gets midnight threat calls; father also targeted

Hyderabad: GHMC Mayor Gadwal Vijayalakshmi received a series of abusive and threatening phone calls in the middle of the night from a man who claimed to be connected to a recent suicide in Borabanda. The unidentified caller didn’t stop with verbal abuse he also issued threats against the Mayor’s father, veteran politician K. Keshava Rao.

The man reportedly left voice messages laced with expletives, warning that he would “finish off” both the Mayor and her father. He identified himself as an associate of Sardaar, the man who recently took his own life in Borabanda, though the motive behind the threats remains unclear.

Following the disturbing calls, the Mayor’s public relations officer approached Banjara Hills police and filed a formal complaint. A case has been registered under relevant sections, and an investigation is underway.

Police say they are working to trace the origin of the calls and verify the caller’s identity based on the mobile number used. Teams are examining whether the threats have any real connection to the Borabanda suicide case or if it was merely a cover.
