Hyderabad: Food safety officers from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation have carried out inspections at 57 bakeries across the city as part of a hygiene enforcement drive.
The inspections, taken up on the Commissioner’s instructions, covered a minimum of five establishments in each circle. In total, 32 food samples were collected and forwarded to the State Food Laboratory in Nacharam for analysis.
Officials instructed bakery operators to maintain hygiene at all stages preparation, storage, sale, and within kitchen premises. They were told to label food items placed in display counters with preparation dates and expiry information.
Multiple violations were noted. These included non-display of FSSAI licences, missing ‘best before’ tags on products, open dustbins, visible fly infestation, and unclean floors. Some premises lacked medical records for food handlers or water testing reports. In several outlets, staff were found working without hairnets.
Notices have been issued for rectification. In cases involving serious breaches, officials said adjudication proceedings would be initiated.
The inspections are ongoing.
