Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan announced on Sunday that a mega GHMC e-waste drive will run on January 12 and 13 in all 300 city wards. This initiative is part of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
The drive aims to raise awareness on e-waste disposal. It also targets scientific collection and recycling of discarded electronics from households, shops, and public spaces. Items like fridges, washing machines, air-conditioners, computers, mobile phones, TVs, batteries, UPS units, and power banks will be collected.
Temporary collection points are set up in every ward for the e-waste drive
To support the drive, GHMC set up temporary collection centres in each ward. Sanitation teams, RWAs, NGOs, and women’s self-help groups are conducting awareness campaigns on e-waste management.
Zonal and deputy commissioners, along with sanitation officials, received orders to ensure full participation and effective implementation. Field teams are using loudspeakers across all zones and circles to inform residents and highlight the importance of the campaign.
The Commissioner urged residents to cooperate with local teams by dropping off old or broken electronics at the marked collection points.
