Hyderabad: GHMC Commissioner R.V. Karnan on Monday urged newly appointed Additional Commissioners and Zonal Commissioners. They should gain a clear understanding of core departmental functions for effective civic governance across Hyderabad.
Speaking at an orientation session held at the GHMC head office, Karnan stressed that comprehensive knowledge of departmental roles would help officers. This would allow them to coordinate better in a reorganised civic structure. GHMC recently expanded its administrative setup from six zones to 12 and from 30 circles to 60.
The programme, titled “Overview of Wings and Core Functions,” included detailed PowerPoint presentations from officials heading key departments—Engineering, Health and Sanitation, Revenue, Planning, Administration, and Urban Services. These sessions introduced the new officers to the operational framework. They also covered performance benchmarks and responsibilities of each department.
Karnan noted that a series of focused sessions would follow. These cover Projects (January 6), Sanitation (January 7), Town Planning (January 8), and Maintenance (January 9). He directed senior officials to prepare zone-specific presentations summarising core functions and recent performance.
“Structured departmental briefings will help officers carry out their responsibilities with clarity,” he said. He urged participants to fully engage with the orientation to resolve operational challenges.
Additional Commissioners G. Srijana, Vinay Krishna Reddy, Hemanth Keshavapatil, Raghu Prasad, Pankaja, Manga Thayaru, and Satyanarayana attended the meeting. Zonal Commissioners G. Mukunda Reddy, Apoorv Chauhan, K. Chandrakala, Radhika Gupta, Priyanka Ala, Sanchit Gangwar, Hemanth Borkade, Ravi Kiran, and Sahadev Rao were also present. Chief Engineers Sahadev Ratnakar, Jyothi, and other senior officials were in attendance as well.
