GHMC clears over 10,000 tonnes in mega sanitation drive

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) wrapped up its Mega Special Sanitation Drive on Saturday after clearing 10,225 metric tonnes of waste across the city.

Launched on December 29, the month-long operation spanned all 300 municipal wards. It ran parallel to regular sanitation work, ensuring no disruption. GHMC declared the drive a success.

Commissioner R.V. Karnan led the effort through daily reviews. He directed zonal and circle officers to maintain strict field-level implementation.

GHMC mega sanitation drive targets solid, demolition, and e-waste

Sanitation teams cleaned 6,495 public spots, including garbage-prone areas, flyovers, foot overbridges, parks, and other open spaces. They removed 7,658 tonnes of solid waste and 2,567 tonnes of demolition debris.

In addition, GHMC ran a two-day citywide e-waste collection at 271 locations. The drive collected 88 tonnes of electronic waste.

Senior officials, including Additional Commissioner Raghu Prasad and officers from the Solid Waste Management wing, monitored operations closely. Their focus was on strengthening urban hygiene following GHMC’s recent expansion and ward reorganisation.
