Hyderabad: A late-night bus accident in Rajamahendravaram injured 26 students. Four buses collided near Diwan Cheruvu when a travel bus applied sudden brakes.
According to police, the accident occurred around midnight near Diwan Cheruvu. Two buses carrying students rammed into each other along with two travel buses. This led to injuries among students travelling in the school buses.
Police said the buses were carrying Class 9, Class 10 and intermediate students from a model government school and college at Gundlapalli near the Dindi project in Nalgonda district. The students, along with teachers and staff, had gone on a three-day educational tour to Araku and Paderu. They were returning after midnight.
Bus accident in Rajamahendravaram triggered by sudden braking
While the convoy was passing Diwan Cheruvu, a buffalo reportedly came onto the road. This forced the driver of the leading travel bus to brake suddenly. As a result, the two student buses and another travel bus following closely behind crashed into one another.
In the impact, 26 students sustained injuries. Police rushed to the spot and launched rescue operations. The injured students were shifted in three ambulances to Rajamahendravaram Government Hospital for treatment.
The remaining students were safely moved to Balavikas Mandir at Diwan Cheruvu as a precautionary measure. Police said the condition of the injured students was stable, and further investigation into the accident was underway.
