Hyderabad: Former MPP from Mamda in Nirmal district and BRS functionary Harish Kumar was kidnapped early Monday near the 44th National Highway in Toopran mandal of Medak district. Unidentified men reportedly abducted him from his native village, Ponnal and drove him toward Hyderabad in his own Innova vehicle.
According to preliminary information, the kidnappers demanded ₹3 crore. The abduction occurred before dawn.
While approaching the Toopran toll gate, the vehicle slowed down, allowing Harish to escape from his captors. He reached the local police station and informed officers about the incident. Police handed him over to his family soon after.
Harish later confirmed over the phone to close associates that he was safe. Toopran police have alerted their counterparts in Mamda, and an investigation is underway.
Initial findings suggest Harish’s driver may have masterminded the abduction. Police have detained the suspects for questioning.
