Hyderabad: A 20-year-old woman died by suicide in Jogulamba Gadwal district, less than six months after her wedding. Her family said she took the step after being pressured to quit studies and work in the fields.
Vaishnavi, from Pallepadu village in Manavapadu mandal, was in her final year at the Women’s Degree College in Gadwal. She married her maternal uncle’s son, Satish Goud, in March. Relatives said she faced repeated demands to stop attending college and focus on agriculture. She told them she wanted to finish her degree.
On August 5, while alone at home, she drank pesticide. Her family rushed her to Kurnool Government Hospital. She died there on Sunday during treatment.
