Hyderabad: Fake currency notes triggered panic among women’s self-help groups in Vemulawada town of Rajanna Sircilla district.
The issue surfaced during routine collection of monthly loan EMI amounts by SHG members. Members handed over the collected cash to their group leader.
When the leader went to a bank to deposit the amount, officials identified one ₹500 note as fake. The bank immediately alerted the group leader.
The detection shocked the members. They said they had unknowingly received the counterfeit note during EMI collection.
Fake currency notes spark concern among SHG members
According to group members, similar fake notes surfaced twice earlier. The latest case marked the third such incident in recent months.
As the issue spread, fake currency in SHG transactions became a major topic in Vemulawada. Many women expressed fear while handling cash without verification.
Several members said they now hesitate to accept currency without checking. They feared more counterfeit notes could be in circulation.
Bank officials advised women self-help group members across Telangana to stay alert while collecting payments. They urged groups to verify currency notes before acceptance.
With SHGs operating across the state, officials stressed caution. They warned of financial losses and legal complications linked to fake notes.
