HYDERABAD: A couple’s attempt to deceive the police with a fake chain-snatching incident has backfired, landing them in legal trouble after the truth emerged during investigation.
The accused have been identified as Mukkera Bhagyamma (45) and her husband Anjayya (50), originally from Vallur village in Medak district. The couple had moved to Vasanthanagar Colony under the KPHB limits in Hyderabad.
According to the police, as part of a premeditated plan, Bhagyamma went out on Wednesday afternoon and while returning home, Anjayya approached her from behind and snatched her pushtela thadu (gold chain) before fleeing the scene.
Later, Bhagyamma approached the local police station and filed a complaint claiming that an unidentified youth had snatched her chain. The police took up the case and began an investigation.
However, during the inquiry, including a review of CCTV footage and separate questioning of the couple, the truth came to light. Investigators found that the husband and wife had staged the fake chain snatching in hopes of receiving compensation upon recovery.
Anjayya has been taken into custody, and the police are continuing their investigation into the case.
