Errabelli Dayakar Rao detained amid Torrur municipal poll unrest

Hyderabad: Former minister and BRS leader Errabelli Dayakar Rao was detained in Torrur on Tuesday after he objected to the use of an ex-officio vote during the municipal chairman and vice-chairman elections.

Tension gripped the town as the election process began. In response, police imposed Sections 144 and 163 across Torrur. They deployed heavy forces and set up tight security to prevent disturbances.

Errabelli Dayakar Rao questioned how Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya could cast an ex-officio vote in Torrur after already exercising her vote in Warangal. Consequently, he staged a protest, alleging procedural violations.

Police detain Errabelli Dayakar Rao amid protests

Police took Errabelli into custody following his protest. Initially, they tried to shift him to the Narsimharaopet police station.

However, BRS workers intercepted police vehicles near Narsimhulapet. As tensions escalated, heated exchanges broke out between party cadre and police personnel.

Despite the obstruction, police shifted Errabelli to the Narsimhulapet police station. Meanwhile, tension continued in Torrur due to the municipal elections. Nevertheless, police remained on high alert to prevent any untoward incidents.
