Hyderabad: Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday declared that the Congress party would remain in power in Telangana for at least eight more years, citing its growing public support and recent electoral victories.
Speaking to reporters in Kodad town after casting his vote along with his wife and MLA N. Padmavathy Reddy, Uttam said the party’s next victory in the assembly polls was already guaranteed. With that mandate, he added, the Congress government would work to transform Telangana into one of the nation’s top-performing states.
Congress rule Telangana: Recent poll wins show no close rival, says Minister
According to the Minister, the Congress party’s strong performance in recent elections—including the December 2023 Assembly polls and the latest Gram Panchayat elections—proved that no opposition party currently poses a credible challenge.
He described the ongoing municipal elections as a “historic milestone” that would reinforce the Congress party’s electoral streak and further consolidate its mass base. The party’s success, he said, began with the 2023 Assembly win and has extended through multiple by-elections and local body contests.
Referring to earlier victories in the Secunderabad Cantonment Board, MLC elections, parliamentary contests, the Jubilee Hills by-election, and recent village-level polls, Uttam said the momentum clearly favoured Congress. The outcome of the current municipal elections would, he claimed, reflect the same pro-Congress wave.
Based on voter trends, he projected that the party would secure over 90 percent of urban local bodies, including a near sweep of 123 municipalities and seven municipal corporations.
He attributed the Congress’s popularity to two years of effective governance marked by development, transparency, and impactful welfare schemes.
