Hyderabad: The 8th MM Judicial First-Class Magistrate in Nampally has imposed a ₹3,300 fine on motorists caught driving under the influence. Unusually, violators must now also serve in public awareness efforts.
Magistrate instructions went beyond standard penalties. Drivers found intoxicated within Kachiguda Traffic Police limits were not only fined but mandated to participate in safety outreach programmes.
Following the court order, Amberpet traffic police held a public campaign at Tilak Nagar and Chaitanyapuri crossroads. Sub-inspectors Gnaneshwar and Durgaprasad led the initiative.
Violators carried placards reading “Don’t Drink and Drive” and spent hours conveying the dangers of drunk driving to passing motorists and pedestrians.
The magistrate’s approach sends a strong message. Instead of only punitive measures, offenders become active participants in shaping safer roads.
The campaign continued until 5 PM, drawing attention from both citizens and local media.
