Hyderabad: The disqualification proceedings against defecting BRS MLAs in Telangana have entered the final phase, with Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar holding multiple hearings on Friday. However, none of the MLAs under scrutiny appeared in person.
Only advocates representing the legislators attended the sessions and presented their arguments. The Speaker is conducting the hearings under the Anti-Defection Law, with most cases expected to conclude within the week. Cross-examinations in four earlier cases have already been completed.
Speaker hears four disqualification petitions
The first case reviewed on Friday involved Korutla MLA Kalvakuntla Sanjay versus T. Prakash Goud. Advocates from both sides presented oral arguments.
This was followed by the hearing of Kalé Yadayya versus Chinta Prabhakar, and then Gudem Mahipal Reddy versus Chinta Prabhakar. In both instances, legal counsels offered detailed submissions.
Speaker Prasad Kumar also heard the case of Bandla Krishna Mohan Reddy versus Palla Rajeshwar Reddy. All proceedings were conducted without the direct presence of the MLAs concerned.
Additional hearings and security restrictions ahead
Hearings for the remaining four defected MLAs are expected to take place shortly. In light of the ongoing legal process, authorities have imposed restrictions around the Assembly premises until October 31 to maintain order.
