Hyderabad: BJP MP Dharmapuri Arvind once again stirred controversy by renewing his demand to rename Nizamabad city and district as Indur.
Addressing a press conference on Friday, Arvind said the Bharatiya Janata Party would win the Nizamabad Municipal Corporation in the upcoming civic elections. Accordingly, he said the party would rename the city immediately after a BJP mayor took charge.
According to Arvind, the name “Nizamabad” had turned into a symbol of misfortune for the district. In contrast, he said Indur carried a strong and respected historical identity. Therefore, he asserted that the BJP mayor would move the name-change proposal as the first resolution.

Arvind said the party would not compromise on the issue once it gained control of the municipal body. Instead, he stressed that restoring the old name remained a firm political commitment.
Meanwhile, the BJP MP criticised the former Nizam rulers of Hyderabad. He accused them of deliberately changing the historical name Indur to Nizamabad. As a result, he said, the region lost its original identity.
Arvind claimed that Indur was an ancient and dignified name with deep historical roots. Ultimately, he argued that restoring the name would correct a historical wrong and revive the city’s original identity.
