Dasoju Sravan flags constitutional threats and rebukes ruling class

Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan marked Constitution Day with sharp criticism of leaders who, he said, weakened democratic institutions. He noted that the country must bow to the rule of law rather than to individuals in power. According to him, the Constitution acts as India’s shield and protects every poor, backward and marginalised citizen from the misuse of authority.

Sravan said the biggest threat to the Constitution emerged from those who swore to uphold it in the morning but broke the same promise by evening. He argued that the ruling class used institutions to silence critics. Moreover, he said laws were twisted to ensure political survival, which he described as a betrayal of constitutional values.

He observed that leaders come and go, yet the Constitution continues to safeguard the foundations of democracy. Sravan said it must remain above ego, vendetta and corrupt political behaviour. Because of this, he urged citizens to defend constitutional principles whenever they face pressure. He added that such defence preserves the dignity of the nation.

Sravan said the moment demanded a clear public pledge to resist attempts to weaken democratic norms. He urged people to avoid silence when democracy suffered. According to him, the truth often requires a firm voice, and that responsibility lies with every citizen. He said protecting the Constitution is the highest expression of patriotism and strengthens India’s democratic character.

Sravan concluded that Constitution Day should remind citizens of their duty to uphold the document’s spirit. He said the nation must honour the values that built the republic and reject actions that distort those values. Such vigilance, he said, ensures that the Constitution remains the supreme authority guiding the country’s future.
