Danam Nagender seeks timeline for Musi rejuvenation in Assembly

Hyderabad: Musi rejuvenation returned to focus as the Telangana Assembly resumed proceedings on the second day of its session, even as BRS members pressed for a debate on urea shortage.

Despite protests by BRS MLAs, the Speaker continued with Question Hour. During the discussion, Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender spoke on the long-pending Musi river rejuvenation project.

Referring to earlier efforts, Nagender said a team had studied Musi rejuvenation models in South Korea. He recalled that a comprehensive plan was first prepared in 2004 during the tenure of former Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, but later remained in cold storage.

According to him, the Congress government revived the Musi rejuvenation initiative after coming to power. He also rejected claims that farmers were unable to sell crops grown using polluted water.

Musi rejuvenation needs clear timeline: Danam Nagender

Highlighting the government’s approach, Nagender said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy was moving ahead with the project in a planned manner. He reminded the House that a ministers’ team had already visited South Korea to study river restoration practices.

However, the MLA sought clarity on the timeline for Musi rejuvenation. He said investors had shown interest in committing nearly 500 million dollars to the project.

Expressing concern, Nagender said inappropriate remarks targeting the Chief Minister had surfaced on social media. He alleged that some platforms were spreading misinformation using social media tools and artificial intelligence.

Calling for transparency, the MLA urged the government to announce a clear Musi rejuvenation timeline and place it in the public domain. He also appealed for the project to be completed at the earliest.
