Anti-Narcotics Award

Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police bagged the top honour in Dubai first place in the “Excellence in Anti-Narcotics Award” at the 2025 World Police Summit. Commissioner CV Anand received the award on behalf of the department at a ceremony held today at the Dubai Police Officers Club.

The summit ran from May 13 to 16. Hyderabad’s Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) was recognised for its high-impact operations against drug trafficking and abuse across the city. The award committee cited the force’s targeted crackdown on smuggling and consumption, especially among students, and sustained outreach programmes within the Hyderabad Commissionerate over the past three years.

CV Anand, who serves as Director General and Commissioner of Hyderabad Police, expressed pride in the department’s performance. Speaking at the event, he noted that top-ranking police forces from 138 countries were present. He said H-NEW’s win among such global competition was a strong endorsement of the unit’s methodical and aggressive strategy. He credited his entire team, acknowledged their dedication, and offered heartfelt thanks. Called it a moment of pride not just for Telangana, but for all Indian police forces.

The commissioner pointed to H-NEW’s innovative work processes and integrated drug-control model as key reasons behind the international recognition. Twelve officers and innovators from twelve countries were awarded first prizes across various law enforcement categories.

Earlier in the day, Anand spoke during a panel discussion on India’s drug problem especially post-COVID. He detailed the routes through which narcotics enter the country, the networks behind them, and the Hyderabad Police’s approach to tracking syndicates and peddlers. He also outlined efforts to monitor educational institutions using anti-drug committees, spread awareness, and provide rehabilitation support.
