CPM demands BC reservations in Telangana local elections

Hyderabad: The Communist Party of India (Marxist) demanded the implementation of 42% reservations for Backward Classes (BCs) in the upcoming local body elections. CPM local branch secretary M. Gopinayak and Saroor Nagar circle committee member Katta Srinivas made the demand on Thursday.

The protest took place at NTR Nagar under the leadership of the RK Puram Division CPM branch. Party members said that despite the Telangana Assembly unanimously passing the BC reservation bill, the BJP-led Central government had failed to implement it. They accused the Governor of acting under the Centre’s direction instead of respecting the state’s decision.

The leaders urged the state and Centre to annul the High Court’s stay order on the BC reservation issue. They also sought a constitutional amendment by including the BC Bill under the Ninth Schedule to ensure its legal protection.

The CPM announced its full support for the statewide bandh scheduled for October 18. Party leaders Jagan Yadav, Munna Paramesh, Shankar, Shakeel, and others took part in the protest.
