Hyderabad: Two CPI Maoist members surrendered before police in Mulugu district on Thursday, influenced by a CRPF outreach drive and Telangana’s rehabilitation policy.
The former members of the banned CPI (Maoist) party gave up arms in the presence of Eturnagaram ASP Manan Butt, IPS, as part of the ongoing “Poru Kanna Ooru Minna – Mana Ooriki Tirigi Randi” awareness campaign, aimed at tribal welfare and reintegration.
The surrendered cadres had been active in the Maddedu Area Committee and Akash team. Identified as Kudiyam Pandu alias Karthik and Muchaki Mangal, both are natives of Bijapur district, Chhattisgarh. Pandu was part of the Maddedu committee, while Mangal was affiliated with the 2nd CRC of CPI (Maoist).
ASP Manan Butt handed them ₹25,000 each as financial assistance under the state’s surrender policy. Officials said Maoist cadres, increasingly disillusioned with leadership and the underground lifestyle, are choosing peaceful lives with their families.
Telangana’s surrender policy includes cash incentives, healthcare, and full rehabilitation support. Authorities are counseling families and encouraging Maoists to return to mainstream life through various media and outreach platforms.
The event was attended by CRPF Assistant Commandant Prashasta, CI Ramesh (Venkatapuram), SI Satish (Wajedu), and SI Tirupati (Venkatapur).
