CPI accuses BJP of stalling BC Bill in Telangana

Hyderabad: CPI state secretary and MLA Kunamneni Sambasiva Rao accused the BJP of deliberately blocking the Backward Classes (BC) Bill, which provides 42% reservations in local bodies.

Addressing the media at the party’s state office, Rao criticised the BJP for opposing the BC Bill while simultaneously blaming the state government for delays. He said the BJP had stalled the bills sent by the Telangana government for four months, and had also obstructed approval of the ordinance.

Rao also accused the Centre of maintaining a dual stance not just on the BC Bill but also on the implementation of SC sub-categorisation. He condemned the central government for failing to speak a word in Parliament on Operation Sindhur, despite support from all political parties and civil society. He slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for remaining silent even when former U.S President Donald Trump claimed he stopped the war. Rao demanded that the Prime Minister present the full facts before Parliament.

Calling for reforms to the anti-defection law, he said the Supreme Court had directed that Speakers must decide on disqualification petitions within three months, but questioned whether this was enforceable under current loopholes. He urged a stronger legal mechanism to ensure the immediate disqualification of defectors.

On the Kaleshwaram project corruption probe, Rao said the one-member commission headed by Justice P.C. Ghose had submitted its report to the government, and called for strict action against the guilty.

He also demanded clarity from BRS on the alleged merger of BRS with the BJP.
