Hyderabad: Hyderabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand Sajjanar has issued a safety advisory to parents, warning them not to let children stand on the front footboard of scooters. His message follows a fatal incident in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, where a child lost their life in a similar situation.
Sajjanar shared video footage of the accident on platform X (formerly Twitter). He explained that children may unknowingly twist the accelerator while getting on or off a parked scooter. This action could result in sudden movement, leading to serious or even fatal accidents.
Children on scooter footboard: CP urges parents to follow safety measures
Sajjanar emphasized that even a brief lapse in attention can have deadly consequences. To prevent such incidents, he urged parents to adopt the following precautions:
- Turn off the engine and remove the key as soon as you stop the vehicle.
- Hold the brake firmly when children are getting down to avoid unexpected acceleration.
- Use the engine kill switch if the scooter is equipped with one.
He said the Muzaffarnagar accident stands as a grim reminder of what can go wrong in seconds. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of not letting children stand in front while riding children on scooter footboard.
In conclusion, Sajjanar stated, “Your safety is in your hands.” He appealed to the public to not only follow these guidelines but also share them widely to raise awareness and prevent further tragedies.
