Hyderabad: The Torrur Municipality chairman election in Mahabubabad district concluded with a draw of lots, as Congress candidate Thunam Shravan secured the post after both Congress and BRS received equal votes.
The election unfolded amid high tension and heavy security. Both parties engaged in a close contest for the municipal chairman post. Since the two sides secured an equal number of votes, suspense gripped the proceedings.
As per rules, officials decided to conduct a draw of lots to determine the winner. Consequently, luck favoured Congress councillor Thunam Shravan. Officials then declared him chairman of Torrur Municipality. The victory assumed political significance, as the area was considered a stronghold of the BRS.

Meanwhile, chaos erupted outside the municipal office during the election process. Congress and BRS workers gathered in large numbers. As a result, pushing and heated exchanges broke out between the two groups.
Police intervened immediately and brought the situation under control. Thereafter, security personnel remained on alert to prevent further incidents.
Following the announcement of results, Congress workers celebrated the victory. However, police continued to maintain vigil in view of the tense atmosphere.
