Congress govt unleashes political harassment in Telangana: Dasoju Sravan

Hyderabad: BRS MLC Dr. Dasoju Sravan on Friday accused the Congress government in Telangana of using political harassment to manipulate the upcoming municipal elections. He asserted that the ruling party had dismantled constitutional values across the state.

Sravan said the elections intended to uphold democracy are instead being conducted in an authoritarian and disgraceful manner. “The democratic process has turned into a mockery,” he declared.

BRS accuses Congress of poll rigging, violence, and abuse of state power

The BRS leader alleged that Congress leaders are distributing money in public view to sway voters. He criticised the State Election Commission for ignoring these violations and accused the police of watching silently instead of upholding their responsibilities.

According to Sravan, growing support for BRS has rattled the Congress leadership. Consequently, they have resorted to threats and physical violence. He condemned the assault on former Minister Mallareddy in Aliabad, Medchal district. Additionally, he accused Congress workers of blocking Harish Rao’s campaign in Mancherial, describing both incidents as direct attacks on democracy.

He warned that law and order in Telangana has broken down. “If the Election Commission won’t ensure a free and fair process, they might as well hand over certificates declaring Congress candidates as winners,” he added, with sarcasm.

Allegations of kidnapping and forced withdrawals by Congress

Sravan further accused Congress workers of kidnapping BRS candidate Mamidi Divya in Kodad. In another disturbing incident, he said party workers disguised a BRS Hindu candidate in a burqa and forced him to withdraw his nomination. This allegedly allowed a Congress candidate to win unopposed. Sravan described the episode as a “murder of democracy.”

He also claimed that Congress workers in the Speaker’s constituency threatened BRS candidates and forcibly made them wear Congress scarves. “The ruling party is abusing power without hesitation,” he said. “It behaves like fencing that eats the crop it’s meant to protect.”

Sravan demanded that the State Election Commission take immediate corrective measures to ensure transparent elections. He also criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s conduct, saying the CM’s language and actions remain unchecked despite repeated warnings.
