CI booked in abetment case after domestic violence accused dies by suicide

Hyderabad: A woman Circle Inspector probing a domestic violence case has been booked for abetment to suicide in a dramatic turn in Karimnagar district.

Choppadandi police registered a case against Sriletha, CI of the Karimnagar women’s police station, following a complaint by K Lingayya, father of the deceased Kadari Shravan Kumar. Lingayya alleged that Sriletha, in collusion with the victim’s in-laws, repeatedly threatened his son in connection with the ongoing dowry and domestic violence case filed by his daughter-in-law.

Shravan Kumar, 34, from Choppadandi, was married in 2021 to Bathula Neelima of Karimnagar. The couple had a four-year-old daughter. Following marital discord, Neelima left for her maternal home in 2024 and lodged a complaint at the Karimnagar women’s police station, accusing her husband of dowry harassment and domestic abuse.

According to the complaint, Sriletha made multiple threatening calls to Shravan Kumar, warning him of dire consequences if he failed to appear at the station. Lingayya stated that his son, gripped by fear, consumed pesticide and died.

Based on the father’s complaint, Choppadandi police filed an FIR not only against CI Sriletha but also against Neelima and five of her relatives.
