Chandrababu unveils strategic blueprint to boost port-led economy in Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has charted out a sweeping strategy to transform the state’s 1,000-kilometre coastline into a thriving engine for port-led economic growth. The plan includes setting up a port or fishing harbour every 50 kilometres along the coast to drive employment, industrial expansion, and maritime infrastructure.

Naidu made the announcement during a high-level review meeting at the state Secretariat with officials from the Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, including Secretary T.K. Ramachandran.

A key highlight of the meeting was the long-pending proposal to establish a massive shipbuilding and repair cluster in Dugarajapatnam, Nellore district one of the commitments made during the bifurcation of united Andhra Pradesh.

The cluster will span 2,000 acres, with 1,000 acres reserved for core shipbuilding operations and the other 1,000 set aside for allied industries. The central government is expected to invest ₹3,500 crore in the project, while the state will provide the land.

To implement the project efficiently and attract top-tier global companies, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) will be created.

Naidu’s coastal strategy marks a bold push toward leveraging Andhra Pradesh’s maritime geography for long-term economic gain.
