Hyderabad: BRS legislators from Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts have warned of a protest at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s residence. City residents would join them if the government fails to resume water lifting from the Kannepalli pump house. The leaders said the move is needed to avert a drinking water crisis.
A BRS delegation inspected the Kannepalli pump house, which is part of the Kaleshwaram project. It comprised MLAs Devireddy Sudheer Reddy, Madhavaram Krishna Rao, KP Vivekanand Goud, Marri Rajashekar Reddy and Bandari Laxma Reddy. Former minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao and former MLA Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy also joined the delegation.
The leaders alleged that over 750 TMC of Godavari water has flowed into the sea since June. They said this happened despite growing water shortages in Hyderabad. They claimed that lifting around 250 TMC could help replenish reservoirs, improve groundwater levels and meet drinking water needs.
Vivekanand Goud alleged that the government had ignored earlier warnings about the impending crisis. He said even 10 TMC would meet Hyderabad’s annual drinking water requirements. He urged the government to operate the pumps immediately.
Residents get water once every three days
Marri Rajashekar Reddy said residents in several areas receive water once every three days, often at low pressure. Sudheer Reddy criticised the government over the delay in addressing issues concerning the Medigadda barrage.
Errabelli Dayakar Rao accused the Congress government of deliberately undermining the Kaleshwaram project. Gandra Venkata Ramana Reddy demanded immediate action to prevent further water wastage.
The BRS leaders warned that continued inaction could worsen the city’s drinking water shortage. They said the government must act without further delay.
