BRS stages protest over fee reimbursement near Assembly

Hyderabad: BRS legislators staged a protest near the Telangana Assembly on Monday, demanding immediate release of pending dues under the fee reimbursement scheme.

Before the start of proceedings in both Houses, BRS MLAs and MLCs gathered at Telangana Martyrs’ Memorial at Gun Park. They displayed placards and raised slogans seeking clearance of pending amounts.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, K Madhusudhana Chary, alleged that the government delayed payments and affected students’ education. He said many students were forced to drop out due to non-release of funds.

“We demand the immediate release of ₹12,000 crore in pending fee reimbursement arrears,” he said.

He also alleged that the government lacked commitment towards students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Backward Classes. He said the previous government had prioritised the scheme and ensured access to education.

BRS legislators marched towards the Assembly building with placards. However, security staff stopped them and asked them to leave the placards outside.

When legislators refused, marshals intervened and removed the placards. Meanwhile, BRS submitted adjournment motion notices in both Houses to discuss the issue, but presiding officers rejected them.

Police tightened security around the Assembly following the protest call. In addition, authorities remained on alert due to BJP’s call for a siege over multiple issues, including unfulfilled guarantees and the Musi Riverfront project.
