HYDERABAD: During the Telangana Legislative Council session on Tuesday, BRS MLC Kalvakuntla Kavitha raised questions regarding the implementation of the government’s manifesto promises related to pensions.
Addressing the House during the Question Hour, Kavitha pointed out that the ruling party had committed in its manifesto to providing a ₹4,000 monthly pension to individuals aged 57 and above. However, she noted that the government has yet to implement this increase. Instead, ministers have stated that the pension amount will remain unchanged, with no possibility of an increase.
Kavitha questioned whether the government intends to fulfill its manifesto commitments and sought clarity on whether the pension amount would be increased to ₹4,000 as promised. She also highlighted the assurance given in the manifesto that pensions would be provided even if there were two eligible individuals in the same household.
Additionally, she emphasized the need to update pension records for widowed beneficiaries and urged the government to ensure that differently-abled individuals receive the promised ₹6,000 pension.
Her statements brought attention to concerns regarding the implementation of welfare schemes in Telangana, prompting a response from the government on the status of pension revisions.
