BRS appoints Koppula Eshwar as in-charge of Telangana coal miners’ union

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has appointed former minister Koppula Eshwar as the party in-charge for the Telangana coal miners’ union, intensifying its focus on Singareni Collieries and the welfare of its workforce.

At a strategy meeting held at Telangana Bhavan and chaired by BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao, union leaders and party representatives resolved to launch coordinated programmes in the Singareni belt. BRS MLAs, former ministers, and local in-charges will work under Eshwar’s direction to strengthen outreach and mount pressure on the Congress government.

The party plans to scale up its agitation on unresolved issues affecting coal workers. KTR emphasised the need to take the BRS government’s 10-year record on welfare and development schemes for Singareni workers directly to the coal belt. He said former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao’s priority was safeguarding state-run enterprises, especially Singareni, against privatisation.

Participants accused the Congress of betraying Singareni workers with hollow promises made during the elections. They also alleged the Congress was colluding with the BJP to privatise the mines and vowed to expose the “conspiracy” in the public domain.

BRS promised full legal and political support to the union. The party’s legal cell will assist any worker subjected to injustice by the Congress government. Plans are also underway to hold a large-scale mobilisation meeting in the Singareni region under the coal miners’ union’s banner.
