Hyderabad: Eight to nine people died and several were injured when a section of the Gambhira Bridge collapsed on the Mahisagar River in Padra‑Mujpur, Vadodara district, on the morning of July 9, 2025. Rescue teams are still working to recover victims and clear debris.
Built in 1985, the 900‑metre Gambhira Bridge links the Anand and Vadodara regions. At approximately 7:30 am, a slab gave way, causing at least four vehicles—including two trucks and two vans—to plunge into the river. Eyewitnesses reported a loud crack before the collapse

Local administration along with fire services, the Vadodara Municipal Corporation, NDRF and police responded swiftly. District Collector Anil Dhameliya confirmed nine fatalities and six injuries. Injured victims, some with serious fractures, were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment
Health Minister Rushikesh Patel noted the bridge was subject to periodic maintenance. However, structural concerns have been raised. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel ordered an expert investigation and announced compensation to the bereaved families
The collapse severed the main traffic artery between Anand and Vadodara, forcing commuters to seek alternate routes. Opposition parties have demanded answers, citing this as yet another infrastructure failure and calling for better oversight.
