Hyderabad: BJP MLA Palvai Harish Babu on Friday called for the immediate withdrawal of the Municipal and GHMC Act Amendment Bill. He stated that the legislation lacked transparency and contradicted public sentiment. The BJP demands withdrawal GHMC Bill due to these concerns.
Speaking in the Assembly, Harish Babu said opposition members were not given complete information about the Bill. He questioned the logic behind expanding the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits to nearly 2,000 sq km.

The BJP legislator strongly opposed the merger of 51 gram panchayats into municipalities, followed by their direct inclusion in GHMC. He warned that such moves would erase the cultural identity of villages and lead to sharp increases in local taxes. Thus, the BJP demands withdrawal GHMC Bill.
He alleged that traditional occupations in these areas were at risk due to the administrative changes. Furthermore, he said the move undermined the administrative importance of Medchal and Ranga Reddy districts.
Reiterating the BJP’s stand, he demanded that the state government withdraw the Bill immediately in the interest of fairness and transparency.
