Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has submitted a complaint to the State Election Commission, alleging police bias and harassment of its candidates ahead of the Telangana municipal polls. According to BJP leaders, the ruling Congress government has been misusing police machinery to intimidate opposition nominees during the campaign.
BJP State President N. Ramchander Rao led the delegation to the State Election Commissioner. The party cited multiple incidents, including threats to its candidates in Ramagundam and Mancherial. Additionally, it highlighted the suicide of BJP candidate Erukula Mahadevappa in Makthal. Party representatives alleged that pressure from local Congress leaders contributed to the incident. They further claimed that the police attempted to weaken the case by filing a misleading complaint.
BJP demands removal of police officials ahead of Telangana municipal polls
The BJP urged the Election Commission to take immediate and decisive action. Specifically, the party called for the suspension of the Inspector and Sub-Inspector involved in the Makthal incident. It also demanded their removal from election duty. Leaders argued that these steps are essential to ensure free and fair polling on February 11.
