Hyderabad: “Welfare means Indiramma,” declared Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka Mallu at the Indiramma Avishkarana Sabha held in Gandhampalli, Bayyaram Mandal of Mahabubabad district on Tuesday. He said the spirit of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s welfare vision is being revived under the Congress government through targeted schemes for the poor.
Referring to the original 20-Point Programme launched during Indira Gandhi’s tenure, Bhatti highlighted its legacy—land distribution to the poor, nationalisation of banks, and policies aimed at empowering marginalised communities. “Indiramma stood with the poor and underprivileged,” he said, recalling that the public had endorsed the Congress party’s promise to bring back governance in her name.
Bhatti stated that the government is constructing double-bedroom Indiramma houses worth ₹5 lakh each for poor families. “When we announced this, people laughed. Now, construction is underway,” he said. A total of 3,500 homes are being taken up per constituency, with ₹22,500 crore allocated for the project.
He also announced that each district will have a Young India Residential School built on 25 acres, with a ₹200 crore investment per school, aimed at providing high-quality education to disadvantaged students.
On tribal welfare, Bhatti recalled that over 3.5 lakh tribal families were given forest land rights under former CM Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. He said this momentum was lost under the previous TRS government, causing distress to tribal farmers. To address this, the new “Indira Girijana Vikasam Pathakam” will be launched by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on the 18th of this month in Achampet, Nagarkurnool district.
