Dasoju Sravan condemns Balka Suman arrest, alleges democratic breakdown

Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader and MLC Dasoju Sravan on Wednesday criticised the Balka Suman arrest and alleged that the Congress government was undermining democratic processes in Kyathanpally of Mancherial district.

In a press statement, Sravan described the arrest of former MLA Balka Suman as high-handed and politically motivated. He alleged that authorities deployed heavy police presence during the action. Therefore, he termed the move unconstitutional and an attack on the voice of a Dalit leader.

Sravan alleges misuse of police power in Balka Suman arrest

Sravan claimed that despite the BRS holding a majority in Kyathanpally municipality, councillors were prevented from reaching the municipal office. He further alleged that officials delayed the election process citing lack of quorum. According to him, the ruling party used police machinery to influence the outcome.

He also accused the government of encouraging intimidation in municipalities with closely contested mandates. Referring to Jangaon, Thorrur, Ibrahimpatnam and Zaheerabad, he alleged similar developments. In those areas, he claimed, councillors faced pressure during municipal proceedings.

Dasoju Sravan urged the State Election Commission to intervene immediately. He alleged that police interference had reduced municipal elections to a farce. He demanded the unconditional release of Balka Suman and other detained BRS leaders.

The MLC warned that the opposition would intensify protests if the government did not reverse what he described as undemocratic actions.
