Andhra CM announces free RTC bus travel for women from August 15

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu announced that women across the state will be able to travel free of cost in RTC buses starting August 15.

Naidu issued the directive during a high-level review meeting with top officials, instructing the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) to implement a zero-ticket system for female passengers from Independence Day.

The Chief Minister reviewed the financial implications of similar schemes in other states and examined how the initiative could be structured to avoid revenue loss. He stressed that the scheme should not burden RTC but be turned into a revenue-generating model.

Naidu also asked officials to explore ways to make RTC a profitable entity and advised that future vehicle procurement focus exclusively on electric AC buses. He noted that shifting to electric buses could lower maintenance costs and enhance operational efficiency.
