Afzalgunj Police launch wristband drive for child safety at Medaram Jathara

Hyderabad: With large crowds expected for the Medaram Jathara, Afzalgunj Police launched a wristband initiative on Tuesday. This aims to prevent children from going missing during the event. The police child safety drive, organized in collaboration with Vodafone Idea, was inaugurated at Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station (MGBS) at 11 a.m. on January 27.

The stall was formally opened by G. Chandra Mohan, DCP, Golconda Zone, in the presence of senior officers including Krishna Goud, Addl. DCP Golconda Zone; Shyam Babu, Addl. DCP SIB; S. Sudershan, ACP Goshamahal; N. Ravi, SHO Afzalgunj Police Station; and J. Srilatha, Regional Manager, MGBS.

The wristbands issued at the stall are embedded with a unique QR code containing key identification details such as the child’s name, parent or guardian’s name, contact number, and residential address. If a child gets separated in the crowd, officials or volunteers can scan the band. Then they can quickly reunite the child with their family.

The Afzalgunj Police urged all pilgrims travelling via MGBS to use the wristband service for their children’s safety during the pilgrimage.
