Afzalgunj bike theft case: Offender held, 3 bikes recovered

Hyderabad: Afzalgunj Police arrested a bike theft offender and recovered three stolen two-wheelers in the Afzalgunj bike theft case, officials said.

Police linked the accused to three cases registered as Crime No.60/2026, Crime No.07/2026 and Crime No.474/2025 under Section 305(b) of the BNS at Afzalgunj Police Station. Officers apprehended Md. Riyaz Uddin @ Riyaz, 39, a liquor depot worker and resident of RK Nagar, Amberpet.

Police recovered a Hero Splendour Plus bearing No. AP.15.S7697, a Honda Activa bearing No. TS.09.EX.6820 and another Honda Activa bearing No. TS.09.EV.1856. These vehicles pertained to the three registered cases.

The investigation began after Sri P. Mahender, 47, an Office Sub-Ordinate at OGH and resident of Nandi Nagar, Banjara Hills, lodged a complaint on 11.02.2026. He reported that his Hero Splendour Plus was stolen from the Liver Care Ward parking area at OGH between 10:30 hrs and 14:30 hrs.

The Crime Team of Afzalgunj Police, under the supervision of SHO Sri N. Ravi and Det. Inspector Sri B. Ravi Kiran, examined CCTV footage and conducted local enquiries. As a result, they identified and apprehended the accused and recovered the stolen bikes.

Modus operandi in Afzalgunj bike theft cases

Police said the accused worked at a liquor depot and was allegedly addicted to alcohol and smoking. To meet his expenses and maintain a lavish lifestyle, he allegedly targeted parked bikes and used duplicate keys to commit thefts.

According to investigators, he first stole a Honda Activa from MGBS parking on 25.11.2025. Later, on 01.01.2026, he stole another Honda Activa from Ashok Bazar, Afzalgunj. Most recently, on 11.02.2026, he allegedly stole the complainant’s bike from OGH using a duplicate key.

Senior officers said Sri G. Chandra Mohan, DCP, Golconda Zone, along with Sri Krishna Goud, Addl. DCP, and Sri S. Sudarshan, ACP, Goshamahal Division, supervised the detection. The DCP appreciated the work of DSI V. Narender Reddy and other crime team staff and announced suitable rewards.
