Hyderabad: Authorities seized 800 quintals of illegally stored PDS rice during raids on Hanuman Rice Mill in Jagtial, officials from Hyderabad Vigilance and Enforcement and Civil Supplies Department said on Wednesday.
Acting on specific intelligence, the team raided the premises and found 30 quintals of PDS rice loaded in an auto within the mill compound. A total of 800 quintals of subsidised rice was recovered from the site.
A 6A case has been registered against the rice mill owner, Konda Laxman. Officials noted that he had earlier been booked under a Preventive Detention (PD) case, but continued illegal activity despite past action.
Authorities said the seized rice would be documented and shifted to the Metpalli godown, and a report submitted to the Collector or Joint Collector.
Officials added that large volumes of subsidised rice meant for low-income families are being diverted to mills, where it is either polished or processed into broken rice and smuggled to other states for commercial sale.
