Hyderabad: Torrential rain on Friday swamped several neighbourhoods across the city, triggering flash floods and near-fatal mishaps. Paigah Colony and Viman Nagar were among the worst-hit, with floodwaters inundating homes, roads, and commercial spaces.
At a Honda showroom in Viman Nagar, floodwaters rushed in so quickly that nearly 80 employees found themselves trapped inside. With exits cut off and water rising fast, the staff had no choice but to call in the Disaster Response Force (DRF), HYDRAA, and local police for help.
Emergency teams got there without delay. Since the main doors were completely blocked by water, rescuers had to guide everyone out through the rear of the building. It was a tense few hours, but all workers were safely evacuated. Several were rescued by DRF boats. All 80 were safely moved to higher ground, officials confirmed.
Elsewhere, in Chandrayangutta, a major accident was narrowly averted. Around 4:20 p.m., a section of the perimeter wall of the CRPF Group Centre collapsed due to the downpour. A car was passing by when the 30-foot-wide, 15-foot-high structure gave way, but missed the vehicle by a few feet. No injuries were reported.
The collapse was captured on nearby CCTV cameras.
