Hyderabad: The Telangana government has provided free electricity to 52.82 lakh households under the Gruha Jyothi scheme. Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka informed the Legislative Council about this initiative.
Responding to a question raised by MLC Vijayashanti on Friday, Bhatti said the scheme covers up to 200 units of electricity per household each month. The state government has paid ₹3,593.17 crore to the electricity distribution companies on behalf of these beneficiaries.
He specified that of the total Gruha Jyothi scheme beneficiaries, 25,35,560 fall under the Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (SPDCL). Meanwhile, 27,46,938 are under the Northern Power Distribution Company Limited (NPDCL).

The Deputy Chief Minister emphasised that the scheme has eased financial burdens on low-income families. It has also contributed to their social, health, and educational advancement. He added that the government’s ₹3,593 crore outlay has directly benefited these households. This support has improved their quality of life.
