Hyderabad: A 22-year-old woman died by suicide in Bengaluru’s Madanayakanahalli after allegedly facing persistent dowry harassment from her husband, a year after their love marriage. The victim, Spandana, reportedly took her life on Thursday after a confrontation with her husband Abhishek during Amavasya rituals.
Despite marrying for love, Abhishek allegedly continued to pressure her for dowry. During a religious ceremony, Spandana was reportedly seeking blessings by touching Abhishek’s feet when he rebuked her, saying the rituals were pointless without dowry.
Disturbed, Spandana messaged her sister via WhatsApp, citing worsening harassment and directly blaming Abhishek and his family for her death. She later hanged herself.
Her parents have alleged that the suicide was staged and have filed a complaint accusing Abhishek’s family of abetment and possible murder.
